About

Graphic Novel:Root and Branch, Part 2

Sabine Hazel uses her partners's access card to open a secret laboratory. Inside, she finds the real Julien, the "root", in the middle of the room. He is held in place with arms outstretched to the sides by straps hanging from the ceiling. Another strap around his chest is used to confine him and tubes running from his stomach and throat are connected to monitoring machines. These machines are also connected to several of his duplicates that are crouching in the fetal position on separate beds that surround him.

Graphic Novel:Root and Branch, Part 3

The machines connected to the root Julien are monitoring his stage of sleep. He is also connected via tubes to several new clones. Sabine enters the room, disconnects him from the machines and cuts the tubes with a knife. The clones begin bleeding and screaming in pain, and Sabine quickly carries the root Julien out of the room.

Graphic Novel:Into the Wild, Part 2

One of Julien's clones takes Connie to the cell at her request after he tells her that the root is still alive. There, she sees that Julien has indeed been alive all this time and is being used by the Company for cloning experiments.

Notes

  • Julien's cell is in Primatech Research. However, it requires at least one extra level of security to enter as other agents like Sabine are not normally allowed entry. Sabine's partner, on the other hand, had access to the room.
  • Artist Jason Badower mentioned in a 9thwonders.com post that the Root and Branch scripts called for the Julien root to have acupuncture needles in him and things to stimulate muscle growth, but that he forgot to draw these and instead tried to go for a more "Iggy Pop" like physique. That is why the clone looks a lot healthier than the root does.
